Rani Padmini Review

Rani Padmini has graced the Silver screen of Kerala today after much awaiting. This Ashiq Abu film was in the news for mainly its cast as it is a female oriented film with two of the leading actresses in mollywood playing the key roles in this film. Manju warrier- Rima Kallingal is a killer combination indeed as far as their popularity and actress skills are concerned. The flick financed by Fort entertainments is the result of the bold decision took by Ashiq Abu to make film with actresses in the male lead. He can get any male lead actor in Mollywood to play the lead in his films but chose a different path altogether. We have to give applause for that first before reviewing the film. The film tells us about two women named Rani played by Rima Kallingal and Padmini Played by Manju warrier, who meets each other during a journey and later their destination becomes one as they began to influence each other and understands each other.

Padmini elopes from her house to meet her husband who went to himachal Pradesh for participating in the Himalayan car race after signing a joint divorce petition notice. Rani elopes from her house to one of her friend’s place in Himachal as she and her family is threatened by a gangster and his team when she tried to make him arrested after seeing a lookout notice in the name of him. Both these women meets at a bus to Himachal and from that point fate unites them to travel together to solve their problems as well as find the life they cherished always. Ashiq Abu’s direction and Shyam Pushkaran-Ravi Shankar team’s screenplay is the real highlight of the film as they together had made it an experience for the viewers.
The director is in full control of the narration and the screen writers are tight with their screen play which goes like a travel thriller. DOP by Madhu Neelakandan is fabulous as his frames gives the film a tone that made it look like a Hollywood thriller/drama at many places. Biji Pal’s soulful music was really soothing to the ears as well as made the story to move forward with a smooth flow. Saiju Sreedharan’s cuts was really crucial to the film and he did it with precision to make the film like a smoothly flowing river.
When it comes to the performance, Manju warrier once again showed that years may come and go she still has in her that can make her the best in mollywood in terms of acting. Rima Kallingal was stunning as well as he really stood up with Manju warrier and at certain times she looked more convincing than Manju’s character. Artists such as Jinu Joseph who played the husband character named Giri of Manju’s Padmini, Sreenath bhasi who played one of the truckers in himachal, Soubin shaheer and Dileesh Pothen who played the channel reporters, and the gangster team, done their part to perfection which made the film all the more enjoyable.
In Total, Rani Padmini is a great cinematic experience which will make you entertained as well as gives you some thoughts about the conditioning our society doing specially in the case of women. Ashiq Abu had done it this time with a classy entertainer and you will not forget rani and padmini after coming out from the cinema halls
