Controversial religious leader Asaram Bapu’s lookalike in Nagrik!
Interesting characters modeled on real life personalities. While the veteran Marathi actor Sachin Khedekar will be seen portraying the role of the late crime reporter J Dey, Milind Soman’s character is apparently modelled on Maharashtra Navnirman Sena’s chief Raj Thackeray.
Now, it’s learnt that the film also has another interesting character based on the controversial spiritual leader Asaram Bapu played by Paresh Daru, who bears uncanny resemblance to the religious guru. Interestingly, Paresh is an art director who belongs to Gujarati cinema and director Jaypraad signed him since he was apt to play the role.
Jaypraad informs, “Nagrik is a socio-political drama projecting the cross-section of the society. Our society is mix of good and bad people. Nagrik, in that sense, is a mirror of socio-political events happening in the society. There are certain elements in our society and they are the representative of polarization. The character which resembles Asaram Bapu has also organically emerged. W have not targeted anybody in particular. It talks about today’s god-man.”
